Hepatitis Immunization Program

Viral Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver that can be caused by viruses and can lead to serious health consequences.

There are several different forms of the virus and the most common types of viral hepatitis in Canada are hepatitis A, B and C.

Hepatitis A virus (HAV) is usually spread through contact with food or water contaminated with the virus. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) are both spread through contact with contaminated blood, and HBV is also sexually transmitted. Both HBV and HCV can lead to serious liver damage, liver cancer and the need for liver transplantation. Currently, there are about 500,000 Canadians living with HBV and/or HCV.

ParaMed offers Hepatitis Immunization Programs for employees whose occupational environments expose them to increased risk of contracting hepatitis or for students who must fulfill the requirements of the college/university prior to entering into a clinical placement. Clinics can be conducted at individual ParaMed sites or at the workplace as per customer request.
