Career spotlight: Noor on recruiting ParaMed talent across Canada

Noor has been a Talent Acquisition Specialist at ParaMed for more than three years. In her role, Noor looks to recruit passionate candidates in Nova Scotia and Alberta who are interested in beginning their career in home care as Nurses, Health Care Aides, Continuing Care Assistants and more. Read on as she highlights the key skills that she looks for when recruiting and shares how ParaMed has been the perfect fit for her and her family as a young mother of three.

Q: What led you to pursue a career in recruitment?

I took an internship in recruitment during my first year of university. After graduating, I continued to work in talent acquisition because I enjoyed having a front-facing role and speaking with prospective candidates in-person.

Q: How did your career with ParaMed begin?

I worked in agency recruitment for eight years. When I was ready to move up in my career, I found a posting for a home-based talent acquisition role at ParaMed in Calgary, recruiting for three provinces: Alberta, Manitoba and Nova Scotia. I figured a career in health care could offer opportunities to grow professionally. Three years later, I now focus on recruiting for Alberta and Nova Scotia.

Q: What qualities stand out to you when you are hiring ParaMed’s team of community caregivers?

I really enjoy face-to-face interviews with candidates. I look for eagerness, adaptability, and flexibility, as a role in home care is much different than a nine-to-five type of career. The nature of home care isn’t the typical nine to five work hours, so we are looking for people who understand that flexibility is paramount to providing the highest quality care. The ideal candidate is also passionate and driven by providing care that fits the needs of the clients.

Q: What do you think someone considering a career at ParaMed should know?

I think that ParaMed offers great benefits and a flexible schedule, which is especially helpful for parents looking to work full-time on a schedule that fits their family commitments. For someone considering a career at ParaMed, I’d like them to know that the work is meaningful, the management is supportive, and that while your work is often done independently, there is a large team behind you who value your insights and work to create a positive, inclusive environment.
