A day in the life of a PSW – Erin’s story
Meet Erin, a Personal Support Worker (PSW) at ParaMed.
As a PSW, Erin believes that being compassionate about caring for people and staying flexible to their needs comes first in this line of work.
“You must be compassionate. These are people. And they’ve had their lives,” she says. “And you must be able to adjust to how they want to take care of themselves for the rest of their lives. You need to be flexible.”
She gets immense satisfaction from each patient she helps and reaps these rewards every day.
“The joy you get out of it is immense. At the end of the day, you come home and you go through your head, everybody you saw, and what you did. And it just means a lot.”
Personal Support Workers like Erin are invaluable champions of home health care.
PSWs provide independence for patients in their homes and communities. They assist with the activities of daily living, like bathing and grooming, meal preparation and assistance with eating, assisting with toileting, perineal care, and basic housekeeping.
