Recognizing PSW Day in Ontario: Meet Kathleen, a Personal Support Worker at ParaMed Toronto
Today marks Personal Support Worker Day in Ontario. We celebrate and recognize the many dedicated Personal Support Workers across ParaMed who provide critical, compassionate support to patients in their homes and in communities across the province every day. Thank you for being a vital part of our care teams.
Throughout her lengthy career in home care, Kathleen has been motivated by the gratitude of the clients she supports. Kathleen recently marked her 44th anniversary as a Personal Support Worker with ParaMed in Toronto. She enjoys the relationships she develops with clients and helping them enjoy their independence. “You go to your clients and you feel welcome. You feel appreciated,” she says. “I love meeting different people. Doing this job, you meet people from all over the world. You get to know not only your culture but somebody else’s culture. It’s fascinating.”
Kathleen, originally from Trinidad and Tobago, followed the footsteps of several relatives into the health-care field after moving to Canada in 1976. While she has no immediate plans to retire, she’s already planning to keep herself busy as a volunteer delivering meals to seniors. Until then, she intends to continue enjoying her work and the people she cares for each day. “You have to do something that you like doing. Otherwise it’s going to show to your clients. You have to like what you do. I enjoy working with my clients.”
