Helping hands and a friendly face – Ed’s story
Meet Ed, a Home Support Worker at ParaMed.
After caring for his own mother, who was ill, Ed felt compelled to provide support for other seniors with similar needs.
“I love getting up in the morning. I love going to see my clients,” says Ed. “I feel like part of their family. I have clients that call me their son.
Home Support Workers like Ed are a vital part of our community care teams. HSWs travel to visit patients and clients in their community to help them live safely in their homes with support for essential daily tasks and self-care activities.
Ed prepares meals and assists patients with eating, basic housekeeping duties, and assists with personal hygiene care such as showering and bathing.
HSWs also play an important role in a client’s quality of life by providing companionship and a friendly face.
“I would suggest to anybody that would like a job where you wake up in the morning and you’re happy to go see people or you see smiling faces when you get there. That’s an opportunity you can’t turn down.”
